In Sibenik, one lives with the sea. The harbour town lies between Zadar and Split on the southern Adriatic coast. The mouth of the river Krka forms a geographical feature: the approximately 2.5-kilometre-long natural harbour. The town grew around the harbour basin from around 1100 AD. Changing rulers of Venetian, French, Bosnian and Hungarian origin shaped Sibenik into the cultural highlight it is today. Sibenik is a popular starting point for excursions to the offshore islands. You will also be delighted by the historical flair of the quaint alleys.
HIGHLIGHTS AROUND SIBENIK
KATEDRALA SVETOG JAKOVA
A dream in white awaits you in the old town of Sibenik. Just like the romantic alleys, the Cathedral of St. Jacob was built in light-coloured natural stone. The Unseco World Heritage Site is unique: construction began in 1431 in the Gothic-Venetian style. From 1475, a Tuscan master builder continued the construction. The distinctive cathedral served as a backdrop in “Game of Thrones”.
